Kovacs pk appeal

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

I've never made one of these for the reason that I've never been upset by a pk because it was unfair or unjust. Usually it's me fucking up, an unlucky roll, or etc. This time it struck pretty deep and I'm rather bitter about the whole ordeal. This probably won't be passed but I might as well attempt. It was Lynch who administered the A'11/PK and it was @Randy event. And thank you to whoever deals with this and I in no way mean to offend anyone that it might seem offensive to.

Order of events is as follows:

  • We landed and as soon as we landed we were aggressively told to be quiet by Redbrick. This antagonized my character.
  • After making one or two comments and trying to join in on the shit talking, and attempting to create rp, I was ordered to be quiet by Redbrick. After making a second comment explaining myself she ordered my char to punch himself to which I did and passed it off as a joke.
  • After this we took up positions to watch over a town when I started joking about how the E-Pulse is a railgun to which a little banter between him and Redbrick happened. My char assumed it was a joke but after being responded to he requested that Redbrick give him some respect.
  • After a while of sitting in silence and observing the town we eventually moved in. My char followed orders and preformed well etc.
  • After everything was dealt with he informed the assumed 'squad lead' that he was going to check out a hole dug by the combatants earlier assuming it was a stach of drugs or something. Now comically I'm 90% sure Randy made it into a bomb as a joke. He gave me at least half a minute to run away, and it was genuinely all around a comical moment as I radioed in "THAT'S DEFINETLY NOT DRUGS."
  • Now while I was digging up the hole (and on hold from admins) Redbrick gave me one final order of "Come back here now, this is your last chance" or something along those lines. Which once I was off hold I did.
  • After the bomb went off I rp'd being filled with adrenaline and having a laugh about it. I went over to Redbrick fully expecting a punishment because I literally set off a bomb. I rp'd turning my head to get decked and instead she pulled out her pistol and did a /me of pulling her gun out and blasting my brains out. Which (a shocked me) then I responded with /me gets his brains blown out.

Reason I think this is unfair.

  • One. I was put on hold. I couldn't realistically just tell Randy to fuck off and then I run away.
  • Two I believed the A'11 was a bit power gamed as it was /me pulls out her gun and shoots the man. (I do not have logs as I left in a bit of a fit lmao though if someone has logs it would be appreciated)
  • Three. I spoke to Randy and he said he forgot about the drug stache and improvised it to be a bomb as a joke. I find being pk'd off what was intended as comedic relief unfair and frustrating.
  • Spoiler

In the end I'd like to say I was trying to create rp.

I will be taking the reigns of this appeal for the time being. For the moment I would like to hear from both @Randy and @TheLynch on their perspectives on the events that transpired to lead to this PK.

Arrows character had been being difficult on the drop itself, disrespecting my own character who was a Staff-Sergeant and Drop-lead with SiC being Jimbows character Captain Moore. He was told and then ordered to keep quiet after he began commenting on a separate NJP, he refused to follow the order and was issued with an NJP, he then began reacting to it as though it were a joke and thus the NJP continued to get worse while Jimbow was speaking to a local.

Kovac continued throughout the NJP to laugh, and pass it off as a joke, ignoring the seriousness of the issue. I then began to speak in the VC about what was going on. Me and Jimbow chose to give him one last chance to stop considering the experience the player has had on the server and should know better along with the fact that he was playing a fairly highish ranked MIPOD character that would icly know better presumedly, and so i gave him more, telling him 'This is the last time i'll tell you.' but over the course of 3 separate times i said this. Not a single time did the exchanges change, except to make what it seemed to me that Kovac was now actively rebelling against command publicly and on a combat drop, even goading other Privates to follow suit, to which they warned you to stop and you did not. It continued to get worse until he demanded 'be spoken to with respect' when ordered to continue the over watch protecting the Captain and several other troopers advance, opting to continue arguing and posing a serious issue on the drop. I then chose this moment to be the last chance scenario before i give the Article 11. All issues subsided after this for a moment until we reached the small town and after the HVT was captured along with a few other prisoners, the order was given out to begin searching the small collection of tents nearby for whatever contraband could be found. I ordered Arrows character Kovac to rejoin the main squad which was dubbed 'The Search team' and roughly 5-10 minutes later after some passive had taken place, i had noticed that someone was very far away from the tents, i asked over the radio who it was and determined it was Kovac. Disobeying orders to dig a hole by himself in the middle of nowhere.

I ordered him to return to which he responded with 'I'm searching the hole', and i repeated it again with 'Get over here, this is your last chance.' And he did not, he uncovered what lay inside the hole, it was an IED, he then shouted over the radio 'Thats definitely not drugs.' And finally ran over after the IED went off, i ordered Okazaki and Oakwood to go and collect Kovac and issued an Article 11 for multiple counts of disrespect of an NCO on the field, refusal of orders on the field, interfering in an NJP on the field, and threatening the lives the platoon by his behavior.

I felt more then enough warnings, NJP's (there were multiple given) and Arrows own choices showed that he was not going to comply no matter what was done icly, as it was all considered a 'joke' and his IC actions were pushing how far he could go to annoy and rebel against those around them, perhaps unintentionally but, ic is ic. And so, i chose to immediately draw the pistol as the three were making their way over i acted before he had returned and had it drawn on him all the way until the moment he stopped, i fired immediately, (As for the powergaming? You turned your head away? so idk what thats about.)

In regards to the IED incident that led to Kovacs demise. I rp'd on an event character digging the package into the ground in front of the MI as they were conducting overwatch, they went a different route and I followed their path of approach. A good one and a half hours later into the event once the camp was secured and the drug bust was concluded. I received a slash report from Arrow that he was digging up the hole, which I completely forgot about as I was focused on getting the MI to attack and capture the HVT, so I was in the midsts of writing up a response to Arrows roleplay. I then saw an OOC message posted by a player, I unfortunately forgot who. It read'Inb4 it turns out to be an IED', I had a small chuckle and decided to add to the comedic effect that Kovacs has indeed dug out an IED with a short fuse. I was not intending to PK or Injure that character with that action.

As for the article 11, I was surprised myself that it was Issued and it was caught off-guard, unfortunately I was aware of Kovacs and Redbrick falling out with one another during the bulk of the drop as I was playing event characters interacting with the Mobile Infantry, almost the entire event and did not focus on catching up with chat logs.

After reviewing the incident placed before and with some other input from XA's I have decided to deny this appeal for the following reason(s):

Your character was apart of the MIPOD faction, a unit and detachment within the Federal ranks to house weaker psychics to aid in combat scenarios of the mobile infantry for quick tasks, these men and women are sought to be more obedient and command following troopers than your average (though most would still abide command regardless) these acts displayed not only by a specialist but a MIPOD operative are in them self a risk towards structure.

Your character as well has had previous encounters similar to this scenario, inflicting some minor disruptions with deployment leads which in the end can cause a building stack against you for further repeats of the same situation.

The path you took with your MIPOD operative to generate roleplay for the server was a path that led you on a trickly line when placed into perspective of a intergalatic military force trained and raised to be obedient and follow command unless those commands directly conflict with the oath taken to enlist for service. This placed your character in a position of risk or reward in terms of roleplay which that in itself isn't a bad manner but is a chance game.

The only flaw I could find with this manner was with the IED, which if this PK had stemmed from your lack of returning to the unit while placed in a hold scenario by the event runner, in this case randy then the basis against your death could be a void, though with previous mentions of joking behaviour in the wake of your deployment lead shows this had been a lead up process.
